ABOUT SHILOH
Shiloh’s Purpose.
It is the purpose of this Church to proclaim the simple, fundamental teachings of our Lord both by precept and example. Shiloh recognizes the great fact that society and the world can be made better only as individuals are led to accept the Christian Life, and with all their strength and energy, walk in His footsteps. Upon this platform, the Shiloh United Methodist Church of Bryans Road opens its doors and bids a hearty welcome to all.
Shiloh’s History.
The history of Shiloh United Methodist Church could be described as a mission of outreach, service to others, caring for the community, loving children and all people in the name of Christ. Our goals are to continue and enhance that mission.
The first building, a log construction known as “Halley’s Meeting House,” was built in 1835 on same location as the old Shiloh Church building on Shiloh Church Road, a few hundred yards north of the existing Church building. The old Church building was constructed on that site in 1881. The old structure now houses the Shiloh Thrift Shop. The Church Cemetery is also at the location.
With the approval Annual Conference, the Church acquired approximately six acres of land on the southeast side of Maryland Route 210 in Bryans Road for the purpose of building a new Church. The existing sanctuary and fellowship hall were completed in 1963. A service of Consecration of the new building was held on March 15, 1964. In the succeeding years, the Church continued to grow and provide outreach to the community.
With the growth, a need arose for further expansion. In 1997, a new Administrative and Education Building was constructed. The new facility provides a Church Office, a Pastor’ Study, a Conference Room, a nursery, handicapped accessible restrooms and several classrooms.
The Church is handicapped accessible at street level. There is plenty of parking in the paved parking lot which is very well lighted The Church is located on Maryland Route 210 (North Bound Lane), ˝ mile North of the intersection of Maryland routes 210 and 227 at Bryans Road.
COME JOIN US IN THE WORSHIP OF THE LORD.
